Effect of Modi decision on SSS

As an after effect of Modi govt's currency ban, films slated to release for last Friday backed off. With this, Naga Chaitanya's long delayed romantic drama 'Saahasam Swasaga Saagipo' got a solo release.

If on the positive side the film got solo release at box office, on the downside it had to attract the audiences to theatres in the aftermath of demonetization. Now, as the box office numbers have come out, the film's 'Saahasam' doesn't look to have paid off.

On its first day, SSS collected a share of Rs 1.3+ Cr in the Telugu states. This is almost half of what Chaitu's last release 'Premam' collected, Rs 2.55 Cr approx. The occupancy on Saturday wasn't great either, as per trade reports. The impact of currency abolishment is clearly seen.

In overseas, SSS minted $112,068 from premiers and Friday. In the same period, Premam had collected $210K. Even though the demonetization doesn't have much impact on the US audiences, somehow SSS couldn't match the BO performance of Premam.

The situation is expected to get better as the days progress because the new currency is slowly getting into the pockets of people. At the same time, SSS is losing its sheen and a horde of new films are gearing up for release. Let's see how SSS weathers this storm.
